Head-On / Repossessed
Julian Cope One of rocks greatest, if slightly obscure, flakes, Julian Cope of psychedelic-punk band The Teardrop Explodes (best name ever!) revisits his past in these two-in-one volumes of rock & roll tomfoolery. Although replete with tales of acid washed shenanigans (the race around the kitchen table is hilarious and perhaps kinda familiar to a certain number of us!) it turns out ol' Jules wasn't such a flake after all…well, not of any Syd Barrettesque proportions, anyway. It was great fun to read about and remember all those records I anticipated with bated breath back in the skinny-tie-and-funny-sunglasses era. Cope is a great raconteur, and makes me wish even more that I'd lived in the UK in the late seventies. A fun romp through a legendary era. Harper Collins, $23.95 |
