Pyg, the Memoirs of Toby, the Learned Pig by Russel Potter

PygPyg, The Memoirs of Toby, the Learned Pig, Russell Potter, Viking, $22.00

Yes, this is the diary of a Pig who survives the butchers block to study at Oxford.  Fantastical?  Yes.  Charming?  A treat.   Good story?  A wonderful tug at the “forelock” of Jonathan Swift’s cap ... and the Perfect Christmas stocking stuffer. Nicely put together and written with beautiful style (the mixed case of the time might throw some off but charm others); we get a pig’s eye view of life in England in the eighteenth century – a time not all together kind for a sapient of certain species.  With greater moral fibre than the humans that surround him, Toby travels strange and dangerous roads to his destiny.  Along the way he meets up with many a scholar and poet, Blake and Johnson, but most important of all himself, Robbie Burns!

I loved this book, first attracted to a neat little package, and then totally smitten by its contents. A lovely read for Christmas morning or anytime curled up by a fire with something or someone warm 

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, to all!
